Puerto Plata is part of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic, and where Cabarete is found. It´s capital is San Felipe. It is one of the main tourist destinations around the world, especially for those who love to kitesurf and windsurf.

The province of Punta Plata where Cabarete is located in the Dominican Republic has a population of approximately 330,000 inhabitants, scattered in towns like Cabarete, San Felipe, Puerto Plata (the capital of the province); Sousa next to Cabarete, main tourist destination; Guananico; Imbert; Altamira; Villa Isabela, Luperon, and Los Hildagos which are the most important destinations in the province of Puerto Plata.

This province lives mainly of tourism, although it does not leave behind it´s ancestral means for living of cultivating sugar cane for example. It´s beaches with white sands and crystal waters are what today brings thousands of tourists making tourism it´s main source of income.
